After the October 2021 fires, which decimated over a dozen plots and damaged several others, it became clear that the Cartagena council was going to intervene in site matters as there was no denying that we had major safety issues regarding the residents' individual electrical installations as well as the collective fire fighting capabilities (or lack thereof).
Soon stories began to circulate claiming that our site was in danger of being shut-down and rumours started spreading, causing confusion and distress amongst the residents.
Accurate information was scarce, and different sources gave very different statements.
Although there is a well-organised, independent owners association for our site, the "Asociación de Vecinos del Camping Villas Caravaning La Manga" (https://www.villascaravaning.es/), many of the expats living on site are not familiar with this group and, although this owners association is always prepared to accomodate foreign members, there is still a noticeable language barrier.
After the May 2022 AGM an attempt was made to establish a secondary owners association aimed at the general northern European collective of people living on site, the main groups being English and German speakers.
It was not possible to realise this initiative for different reasons and the expats were once again left in the dark regarding many pressing issues.
The main and only goal for this group is to accurately relay important information from reliable sources in a language understood by all.
There is so much at stake that house prices, property sales, future building projects and people's peace of mind are being affected, which is why rumours and false information have to be disproven as soon as possible.
At the same time, the group should also serve to transmit members' questions, doubts and worries to the site management.
It is probably obvious that we're talking exclusively about dealing with the council's involvement in site affairs - this is NOT an owners association nor is it a general Q and A group for site matters.
Once this crisis is resolved (for better or for worse) this group will be dissolved.
Most people are welcome to join our group providing they either own one or more properties on the site or they currently live on site.
However, sad as it may be, we all know there are a number of individuals in our community who take a perverted pleasure in spreading false information with the only purpose of upsetting others, which is why this group is invite only: it is meant to ensure that only people with the right attitude participate.
This is a privately organised affair, so we have no "obligation" to satisfy anyone's demands nor will we be held responsible in any way for the veracity of the content that's published (even though providing accurate and truthful information is the groups goal).
